The Divyang Cell is a dedicated support system in colleges aimed at ensuring equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities (Divyangjan). It works to create an inclusive, accessible, and barrier free environment, enabling students with physical, visual, hearing, and other disabilities to pursue their education without challenges. The cell provides facilities such as accessible infrastructure, assistive technologies, counseling ,and academic support to help Divyang students integrate seamlessly into the academic system. It also assists in availing government scholarships, special accommodations during exams, and skill development programs to enhance employability. Additionally, the Divyang Cell organizes awareness programs, workshops, and sensitization sessions for faculty, staff, and students to promote inclusivity and eliminate biases. By fostering a supportive environment, the cell ensures that students with disabilities receive equal opportunities to excel in academics and professional careers.

Objectives:

  1. Ensure an inclusive and barrier free environment for students with disabilities. It promotes equal access to education and campus facilities.
  2. Provide academic and infrastructural support to Divyang students. It includes assistive technology, study materials, and accessible classrooms.
  3. Facilitate government scholarships and special provisions for disabled students. It helps in reducing financial and academic challenges.
  4. Conduct awareness and sensitization programs for faculty and students. It fosters empathy, understanding, and an inclusive campus culture.

Assist in skill development and career opportunities for Divyang students. It enhances their employability and independent living skills

Functions of Divyang Cell (DC):

  • Collaborate with NGOs and government agencies for internships and job placements. It helps Divyang students build career opportunities and independence.
  • Ensure accessibility by providing ramps, elevators, and assistive devices. It helps Divyang students navigate the campus with ease.
  • Arrange special academic support such as Braille materials and sign language interpreters. It ensures inclusive learning for students with disabilities.
  • Facilitate government scholarships, fee concessions, and financial aid. It reduces economic barriers for Divyang students.
  • Organize counseling sessions to support the mental well being of disabled students. It helps them overcome challenges and boost confidence.
  • Conduct sensitization programs for faculty and students on disability rights. It promotes awareness and fosters an inclusive campus culture.
  • Coordinate with examination authorities for special provisions like extra time. It ensures fair evaluation and accessibility in assessments.
  • Encourage participation of Divyang students in cultural, sports, and extracurricular activities. It enhances their confidence and social integration.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • This committee shall review the conditions that contribute to the academic success, personal development and well-being of students
  • To develop the student-teacher relationship bond
  • Listening to their problems and understanding what is required for their development in any manner.
  • Assisting the students in their learning process – Addressing and solving their various issues
  • Conducting periodic meetings to talk over student welfare. By organizing activities and facilitating student interests.
  • Managing the needs for extracurricular activities
  • Ensure the coordination between Students, Parents & College authority.
